How old should my child be before I buy them an ATV?
Depending on what province you live in, there may be slight variations to the minimum age of a child allowed to operate an ATV. It is generally recommended that children should be at least 6 years old before riding an ATV designated for that age range. You as a parent need to assess your child's skill and judgment level and decide for yourself if and when your child is ready to ride. Please check your provincial laws for age restrictions. The chart below is a generally accepted guideline for parents to follow:
ATV SIZE MINIMUM AGE Under 70 cc 6 years and older 70 - 90 cc 12 years and older Over 90 cc 16 years and older For more details on minimum riding age in ALL provinces and territories please see the ATV Legislation Chart: http://www.safekidscanada.com/SKCPublicPolicyAdvocacy/custom/ATVProvincialLegislationChart.pdf

Are there any courses that my child can take to learn to ride an ATV?
Yes there are. In fact, there are some provincial governments (including Nova Scotia) that have made ATV training programs for youth mandatory. Look for a program that has Canadian Safety Council certified trainers. Your local ATV riding or racing clubs and associations should have more information or even offer the courses.

Can I limit the top speed of my child's ATV?
All of the KYMCO children's ATVs are limited to 30km/h from the factory. They also all have a throttle stop incorporated into the thumb throttle so that you can limit the maximum amount of throttle your child can give the ATV.
-
Do KYMCO ATVs come with any safety features for children?
All of the KYMCO children's ATVs have a number of safety features incorporated into them. The first feature ensures that the ATVs are limited to 30km/h as their top speed. The second is a child safety tether which is attached to the child and will automatically shut down the ATV should the child fall off. Lastly, all KYMCO ATVs are equipped with a throttle stop allowing you to limit the top speed your child can reach by scaling back their access to the throttle as they learn to ride.
-
What is the correlation between the age of the child and the engine displacement of the ATV?
Children between the ages of 6-11 should not be allowed on an ATV with an engine displacement higher that 70cc. Children between 12-15 years old can ride ATVs up to 90cc, while 16 years and older can ride anything over 90cc. These guidelines have been determined by consumer safety councils and related government groups.
-
Are there trails where I can ride my ATV?
